I love building models in Excel. This could be anything from a simple revenue forecasting tool to a full “3 statement” model. I also love using Excel and Power Query to automate processes – particularly management accounting and reporting.
Financial modelling in Excel (or Googlesheets)
People have different ideas about what a “financial model” is. Some mean a full 3 statement forecasting model (P&L, Balance sheet, Cashflow). Others may want a forecasting model that goes into particular depth in one area – for example, predicting stock movements or providing scenario analysis for a range of revenue outcomes.
Whatever sort of financial model you want, I’ve got the experience and skills to build it. I have some templates to speed things up, but I don’t force a template on you when it doesn’t fit your business.
I’ve also been called in to simplify or fix existing financial models.
Management Accounts models
Are you spending days putting management accounts together? Can I help you create something that will refresh in a few seconds?
I’ve built lots of management accounts models in both my finance and consulting roles. What I mean by a management accounts model is something that will automatically update management accounts each period when new accounting data is added.
I’ve worked with Xero and Sage Line 50 as well as more complex accounting systems. I’ve built models that incorporate charity-specific reporting such as fund reports.
The cost of building a management accounts model will depend on the complexity of your accounts, budgets and final reports. However, to give an indication, if you’re a small organisation or charity using Xero and have a simple budget structure, I have built these models for a total cost of £1,500.
Other Excel consultancy
Have you got spreadsheets that take ages to update or don’t produce the information you need? Do you find yourself thinking – “there must be a quicker way to do this”?
I’m always happy to review errant spreadsheets and make suggestions for improvements. A half day spreadsheet review will cost £350 (or £300 if you’re a charity) and you will get a clear list of actions at the end of it. You can then either fix it yourself or commission me to do further work – it’s completely up to you.
I’m also completely honest – if I don’t think a spreadsheet is the solution, I will tell you!
How I work with you
We’ll usually start with a discovery call, which is always free. Based on that I’ll provide a more specific quote either for the full job or for a time estimate.
I charge in half day increments, which keeps costs down if it’s a really quick job. And I never charge more than I’ve quoted.
My half day rate is £350, or £300 if you’re a charity or not for profit.

As an interim director of finance at an international charity, I commissioned Jess to build a management accounts model to replace the existing manual process that took 10 hours to run.
Interim Finance Director, International Charity
She fully explored what we wanted the model to do and then designed and built an automated model in 2.5 days.
Jess’s model means that putting management accounts together now takes 1-2 hours a month. It also gives us up-to-date reserves reporting against budget, which we didn’t have before, and I am more confident in the accuracy of the reports as there is no manual data entry
