Excel Training and Consultancy

I provide Excel training for finance teams which is tailored to your business and needs. I’m based in Bristol but I’m happy to travel, and I can also deliver training via Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet.

I use a pre-course questionnaire to understand your team’s experience, usage and knowledge so that I can make sure you get the most out of the day’s training and I don’t waste time with things your team already knows, or with older formulas that you may never need.

I also provide consultancy, by reviewing your existing uses of Excel and developing smarter solutions in Excel to save you time.

I can also combine the two. I spend time with you and your team identifying where better use of Excel and other tools will make your lives better. I then design and run a training course based on the areas we’ve identified. Your team will come away with new skills and actual solutions to current problems. They will also have an enthusiasm to continue learning together developing their skills after the course.

Why you should choose me for your Excel training

I’m an experienced and enthusiastic trainer. Before I became an accountant, I taught English as a foreign language, and after I qualified I mixed audit work with training in a range of technical subjects. I have trained staff who have just started in their jobs, and I have trained experienced finance directors.

I have loved using Excel since I was first introduced to it twenty years ago, and am always learning new things. You can read more about my passion for Excel by reviewing my blog posts, particularly those tagged with Excel. A few years ago I discovered Power Query, and I haven’t shut up about it since.

I’ve also got extensive and practical experience in a range of finance roles, from transactional to board level. Because of this, I can ensure that the Excel training I deliver is 100% relevant to finance professionals. I actively keep up to date with new developments to make sure I can help you use Excel as efficiently as possibly

What about Google Sheets?

Many of the same principles apply to both Google Sheets and Excel. If your organisation only uses Google, I can adapt most Excel training to Google Sheets.

Do you only train finance teams?

No, I’ve also trained HR and data teams in Excel and Power Query.

What do you mean by Excel consultancy?

Here are some examples of the sort of Excel consultancy work that I do:

  • review existing spreadsheets to find errors and suggest improvements
  • build forecasting models in Excel (or Google Sheets) or other kinds of financial modelling.
  • build management accounts models in Excel. Sometimes this is because the existing process is time-consuming and I can build something that refreshes instantly. Sometimes it is because the existing accounting system doesn’t give you the reporting you need.

I work in half day units or can set a fixed fee – whatever you prefer.

Indicative rates for Excel and Power Query training and consultancy

I charge £850 plus reasonable travel to plan, design and deliver a day’s training for up to 10 people onsite.

My usual day rate for consultancy is £350 per half day, and I offer discounts for more than one day. So for example, for £1,250 I could provide a day’s consultancy and then a day’s Excel training for your team. I can also include Power Query training at the same rate.

I offer further reductions for charities and not-for-profit organisations. Please contact me for a more specific quote.
