Do you need a part time finance director?
You may be looking for an interim part-time finance director to hold the fort while you recruit.
Perhaps your business is expanding and you need more resource, or more experience. Or maybe you need an extra pair of hands, for example during a systems improvement project, or for busy times such as budgeting or year end.
Flexible help when you need it
Perhaps you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for at this stage, or it might be that you need someone to help you assess what you need going forward. Or maybe you know you need an experienced finance director for some of the time but are concerned you can’t afford one full time.
You may only need someone for a couple of months to provide emergency cover or to help processes run smoothly while you recruit for a more permanent solution.
I have a proven track record of hitting the ground running, taking care of all the necessarily compliance tasks while also suggesting improvements. So you can trust me to get up to speed quickly, fix whatever needs fixing and leave you with a stronger and more sustainable finance and IT function.
Is a part-time Finance Director the same thing as a Fractional Finance Director?
Yes, at least from your perspective. Both “fractional” and “part-time” suggest a flexible resource that does not work full time for the organisation. If you prefer to think of me as “fractional”, that’s fine!
My experience as a part-time Finance Director
For the last fourteen years I have worked at Director / Board level in medium sized entities in the private and not for profit sector. Prior to this, I undertook a number of roles within central government finance functions. These included audit, financial reporting, management accounting and systems implementation projects. I have sector-specific experience in charities, housing, healthcare, hospitality, leisure and tourism, construction and central government. And I pick up new sectors quickly!
I can do all the usual things you might expect of a finance director. I can analyse, forecast, plan, prepare accounts, deal with auditors, banks and so on. I’ve successfully managed and developed teams and guided finance functions through difficult times. I’ve set up systems from scratch and improved existing ones.
I’ve also had responsibility for IT maintenance and development for all of my senior career. As is typical of a senior manager in a medium sized organisation, I have also taken on responsibilities outside finance and IT, for example Data Protection, Health & Safety, and Quality and Performance Management.

Jess stepped in at very short notice when we really needed help to cover our head of finance role on an interim part-time basis.
Catharine Des Forges, Independent Cinema Office
Working between 2-4 days a month over five months she was quickly able to identify what needed to be covered urgently and was calm, conscientious and extremely capable.
She provided additional support with reporting and governance to our Finance Committee and board, and she also made some improvements to speed up our quarterly reporting process.
Her work was exemplary and I couldn’t recommend her more highly.
